All About Friction!

 

What is Friction? 

   Friction is what happens when two things rub against each other. These things can be solids, gases, or liquids.

 

Examples of Friction:

Solids: your two hands rubbing together

Gases: air slowing down your car 

Liquids: water slowing down a boat

 

 Friction at Work

 

 

We are going to pull a brick across several different surfaces.  Will our brick slide easier across our floor, the rug, sand paper, or wax paper? Why is it easier to drag the brick over some surfaces and not others? The link below may help you answer that question.
